Freedonia; Land of the Free and Free, is in big trouble! They are 20 billion dollars in debt, and only wealthy billionaire and widow Ms. Teasdale can bring them relief to lower the sky-high taxes. But there’s one big stipulation— she will appoint Freedonia’s new leader. Using her infatuation to guide her intuition, she chooses Rufus T. Firefly; ex-television star and public menace, to be the new leader of Freedonia. Meanwhile, the prestigious ambassador Trentino is attempting to seduce Ms. Teasdale and take over the country, while he hires spies to track Firefly night and day. Will they succeed? Will the country fall to ruin? Or will Freedonia go to WAR?

The stage adaptation of Duck Soup is based on the classic Marx Brother’s film from 1939 by the same name, and uses the politically-charged comedy as a springboard to critique the current political climate. The director utilized an acting method called THE STYLE, which is characterized by the presence of a live percussionist, grotesque face paint, and intense emotional states that was once compared by a critic to a “…Coke-fueled clown nightmare.” Learn more on The Conspirators webpage.
